Dol

Dol Exhibition at One Church Street Gallery Saturday 21st April - Friday 4th May

‘Dol’ is an exhibition of new photography and print by artists Rachel Thomson and Alix Marie. It combines the oldest and the newest forms of photography to present two strongly feminine perspectives.

‘Dol’ as a term is ambiguous and contradictory. There is a desire in both the artists work to be playful and at the same time engage with some darker themes. Derived from the latin ‘dolor’ meaning pain, there are many ancient sites throughout Europe that use it as a prefix. It has a more obvious association as a child's plaything as well as doll type effigies of the human form being used in cultures throughout the world in magic, art and religion. It is also notably a pet description for 'a pretty silly woman’.
